Why we cannot arrest Tinubu now – EFCC Boss
Abdul-Rasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has indicated that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is being investigated.
You previously asked me a question about arresting people before an investigation, and now you’re asking why Tinubu wasn’t arrested.
Why didn’t you simply say “arrest him”?
In an exclusive interview published by ThisDay on Sunday, Bawa said.
“We’re still looking into it.
For more than a decade, the former Lagos State governor’s wealth has been a major source of conspiracy theories.
Tinubu is accused of having complete control over Alpha Beta Consulting’s finances and of using the firm to embezzle Lagos State monies.
In a 40 page letter handed to a Lagos high court in 2020, Dapo Apara, the firm’s former managing director, accused Tinubu and Akin Doherty, a former commissioner in Lagos, of money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, and other corrupt practices.
“Investigating cases like these doesn’t take a day.
Bawa did not say what the commission is looking into with regard to the former governor.
The EFCC chairman, on the other hand, maintained that investigations do not take place in a single day, noting that the commission conducts thousands of investigations every day.
“Do you get it?
Bawa stated, “You know you’re from the media.”
“After that, you’ll say we’re conducting a media trial.”
