Twitter Ban: What Lai Mohammed Said About Nnamdi Kanu Will Shock You
It is no longer news that the Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended Twitter operations in Nigeria.
While dropping the hint, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has justified the suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria. He explained why the actions of the government against the microblogging site would benefit the country.
The Buhari regime has since come under fire for what many termed as a restriction of the right of expression. In responses to critics, Lai Mohammed said Nnamdi Kanu has been using the Twitter platform to destabilise Nigeria.
The minister told BBC News Africa during an interview on Monday, June 7, that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra has adopted Twitter as his means of propagating anti-Nigerian sentiments.
He said the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence prompted the federal government to suspend the operations of the platform in the country.
“IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu in particular, his platform of choice to destabilise the country is Twitter.
“Twitter is actually the platform of choice for the separatist leader who resides outside Nigeria but issues directives for his members to attack the symbols of authority such as policemen, soldiers, correctional centres, electoral offices and this has been done willfully and consistently without consequences using always the Twitter platform.”
Violators of the Twitter ban to be prosecuted
Meanwhile, Lai Mohammed has stated that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami, has made it clear that anybody who violates the Twitter ban including, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, will be prosecuted.
Mohammed, however, explained that Malami has the prerogative to decide who to prosecute for violating the ban.
