See The Moment Villarreal Beats Manchester United, Crowned Champions Of Europe
It was a sad day for Manchester United yesterday as they lose to their counterpart in a narrow win. Man U have waited for their first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but their hope was dashed soon after David De Gea’s spot-kick was saved at the end of a wild penalty shootout that saw Villarreal crowned Europa League Champions.
Spanish club, Villarreal have been crowned the UEFA Europa League champions for the 2020/2021 season. After both teams ended the 90 minutes with 1-1 and went into an extra time. Villarreal had their hopes and the same could be said of Man Utd but it ended with a penalty shootout.
At the end of normal time, Edinson Cavani and G. Moreno’s found their names on the scoresheet, but it was not enough to grant any of the team victories to be crowned.
After extra 30 minutes of play, it was still 1-1, sending them into the shootouts. The final was staged at the PGE Arena Gdańsk, Poland. All outfield players scored their spot-kicks as did Villarreal goalkeeper, Geronimo Rulli before saving De Gea’s penalty to win the shootout 11-10 and secure their first major trophy in the club’s history.
It was a heartbreaking end for United fans and the team who finished second on the Premier League table but with no trophy. It is the first time Villarreal are winning a European title and will be featuring in the Champions League next season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are keen to make some good signings when the transfer window opens. The club has some key players on their list including Sancho, Declan Rice and Harry Kane. A holding midfielder is currently United’s priority this summer along with a central defender and a fresh Dortmund and England forward, Jadon Sancho.
Marcus Rashford on the other hand has reported an incident of racial abuse after yesterday’s game. He posted on his Twitter page stating,
“At least 70 racial slurs on my social accounts counted so far. For those working to make me feel any worse than I already do, good luck trying”.
