UNIBEN Student who wore ‘Aggressive Malpractice’ shirt lands into hot soup
The name of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) female graduate who boasted about how she used malpractice to get her grades has been discovered in a viral video.
In the video, the female graduate’s signing out blouse featured a message on it that attributed her academic success to “aggressive malpractice.”
The inscription said, “Aggressive malpractice took me this far.” The ecstatic graduate looked unconcerned as she flaunted her shirt while performing dance movements.
While many Nigerians condemned her blouse inscription, others warned that the lady’s actions could result in the University withholding her certificate.
The lady’s identity has now been revealed, as the University Management initiated a manhunt for the erring fresh graduate in the aftermath of the video’s indignation.
Peace Ufuoma has been recognized as the lady in question. According to CAMPUS GIST, Ufoma graduated from the Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Life Sciences.
Meanwhile, the University Management has launched an investigation into the viral video following the controversy around the manner in which the student marked the end of her undergraduate education.
According to CAMPUS GIST, the proper arrangements have been made to call the graduate to appear before a Disciplinary Panel regarding the video. If she is found to be unqualified, she may be fired or have her certificate revoked.
On offences involving examination malpractices, such as the one Ufoma is being investigated for, students are frequently invited to Panels or Committees.
While requesting anonymity, a top official from the university told CAMPUS GIST in an exclusive interview on Monday that the lady’s conduct had brought dishonour to the university.
“The character exhibited by the student is not a true reflection of who we are as an institution of learning – our training, discipline, norms and tradition. We raise and award our certificates to only deserving graduands both in character and learning,” the official told CAMPUS GIST.
Reactions from some of the University’s alumni who commented on the issues were also noted as they also cried about how much damage her actions might have had on the reputation of the school and its alumni.
“I think if this is allowed to slide, it would set a bad precedent. The worse is yet to come. Some people might feel Uniben doesn’t have a standard anymore and we produce jokers as graduates”, said a former Union leader of the school.
“I personally find this shameful and a slap on Uniben as an institution, a top institution at that”, an alumnus of the University commented on one of the platforms where the video was reposted.
Another wrote: “The internet never forgets. So if I am seeking for job and now present my CV to a company, my employers will base my status as a Uniben graduate as someone who must have engaged in exam malpractice in school and subject me to further tests and screening.”
The University of Benin has always stated their stand when it came to exam malpractice and its negative impact on the reputation of the great institution, they have engaged in various strategies and formats that have aided in curbing the spread of exam malpractice in the institution.
