Should State Of Emergency Be Declared In The South-East?
Three people were reportedly killed on Friday during a military raid on the Izombe community in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area OF South-East region
James Imo, a community leader in Umuokwu village, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that over 50 houses had been destroyed.
“I was informed that two military men were killed and their vehicle was set ablaze in Umuokwu-Izombe after they killed one young man, Chukwunonso Iherue.”
Imo revealed that the trouble began with a disagreement between Izombe youths and soldiers over bunkering.
According to an eyewitness, the youth overpowered the officers, stole their guns, and set fire to their vehicle.
According to Imo, the soldiers fled to the traditional ruler’s palace, but the youth dragged them out and killed them. The situation necessitated reinforcement.
“In retaliation for 18 Hilux vans carrying petrol and three war tanks, some soldiers attacked our community,” a source told NAN.
