Should Nigeria’s Government Hands Over Abba Kyari To FBI?
Mixed reactions have continued to trail on social media over a recent warrant issued by Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to track down Mr Kyari.
Abba Kyari is wanted by the FBI in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, a notorious Nigerian fraudster.
Mr. Abbas was detained in Dubai in June and pled guilty to fraud in the United States this week. According to the FBI, Messrs. Abbas and Kyari were buddies and were both involved in a money-laundering scheme. Mr Kyari was also charged with accepting money from Mr Abbas in exchange for the arrest of a syndicate member in Nigeria.
According to court documents reviewed by The Gazette, American prosecutors first filed a court warrant to arrest Mr Kyari on February 12, 2021. On April 29, 2021, a new warrant was issued.
On July 26, the FBI was granted authorization by Judge Wright to arrest Mr Kyari and hold him in US custody. In a rushed response, Mr Kyari denied any collusion with Hushpuppi, claiming that he only met him two years ago and that he received no financial gain from him.
Taking into cognizance the fact that Kyari is a top cop in Buhari’s Administration, do you think Nigeria’s Government will hands him over to the FBI?
