Shocking! Manchester city bans male for life

Manchester city bansManchester City supporter found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United players handed a lifetime ban

Manchester City hand lifetime ban to Anthony Burke; 42-year-old found guilty at Tameside Magistrates’ Court of making a racist gesture towards Manchester United players; incident occurred at Etihad Stadium in December 2019

After being found guilty of racially assaulting Manchester United players in 2019, a Manchester City supporter has been banned for life.

On Wednesday, Anthony Burke, 42, was found guilty after a trial at Tameside Magistrates’ Court.

He was given a three-year football ban, forbidding him from attending any games in the United Kingdom.

For four hours before and after the game, he is also prohibited from going within a mile of any ground where City is playing.

Mr Burke is also prohibited from entering any city where England is playing for eight hours before and after kick-off.

He was also fined £500 and ordered to pay the Crown Prosecution Service a £50 victim surcharge and £300 in expenses.

Following Mr Burke’s guilty verdict, City announced that the lifetime ban will be implemented.

On December 7, 2019, during City’s 2-1 loss to United at the Etihad Stadium, the infringing gesture was made.

“The Manchester derby is a fixture that generally represents the best of Manchester, but Anthony Burke shocked the city and the wider football community that night,” said Detective Constable Susan Muldowney of Greater Manchester Police on Thursday.

No member of society should be subjected to such abuse wherever they are, especially at work – and this applies to everyone, whether they are professional athletes or not.

“As fans return to stadiums in the coming weeks and months, this conviction serves as a reminder to anyone who considers indulging in such unacceptable abuse that we will vigorously pursue hate crime perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
