See How Nigerians React To Proposed Changing of Nigeria’s Name

    Nigerians

There is a strong indication that efforts are being made to change Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic. However, Nigerians on social media have trooped to various platforms to express their opinions on the proposed name change for Nigeria.

The proposal was reportedly submitted by Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

While presenting the proposal, he said Nigeria’s current name was an imposition of its past colonial masters and should be changed.

He said a change of name for the country would physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning.

    Quote

“At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution,” he said.

Reacting to the development, many Nigerians consider the move a bid to thwart the efforts of some groups across the country calling for the secession of some parts.

“So our problem as a country is how to change the name from Nigeria to the United African Republic. This is the height of madness.”

It is quite glaring that the forced marriage that happened in 1914 is coming to an end. It rather unfortunate that it’s going to happen during President Buhari’s regin.

This is the only Nigeria’s president that brought division and embrace nepotism in Nigeria.
