HOUSE OF REPS RECEIVE PROPOSAL TO SPLIT ANOTHER STATE
House of Reps receives proposal to split Adamawa into 3 states
The people of Mubi, Northern Adamawa district, and the Chamba Cultural Development Association (CCDA) have called for Adamawa to be divided into two states: Amana and Gongola.
The groups made the demand at the North East Zonal public hearing for the review of 1999 Constitution before the House of Representatives Committee in Yola on Wednesday.
Mr. Ahmad Sajo, the Mubi Local Government Area’s Spokesperson, stated that Mubi deserved to be a state named Amana, with Mubi as its capital.
According to him, they were previously part of Cameroon, but they chose to join Nigeria because of promises of peace and progress made to them by Nigeria’s then-Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
“As a result, we base our demand on the faith we had in Nigeria, which in Hausa means Amana.
“Restore our position as a self-governing area or state, as it was when we first joined you.
“This is because Northern Nigeria’s premier promised us our continuous position as a unique entity within the Nigerian state, with Mubi as our capital,” he explained.
Similarly, Alhaji Yunusa Gisilanbe, State Chairman of the CCDA, demanded the creation of Gongola State in his petition.
He said the new state would be made up of the Ganye, Toungo, Jada, Mayo-Belwa, Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk, and Shelleng Local Government Areas, as well as Ganye, Toungo, Jada, Mayo-Belwa, Mayo-Belwa, Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk, and Shelleng Local Government Areas.
If constructed, he claimed, three more local government units would be needed: Gangdu from Ganye, Yelli from Jada, and Nasarawo-Jereng from Mayo-Belwa, Barrong from Demsa

He went on to say that the group backed local government autonomy in all forms.
Rep. Mohammed Monguno, Chairman of the House of Representatives Constitutional Review Committee, Yola Centre, promised that all memoranda would be presented to the house for deliberation.
The review of the constitution, according to Mohammed, who is the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, will be based on public wishes and ambitions.
