Police Officers Nabbed For Extorting N60,000 From A Traveller In Imo
The Imo State police command has arrested several officers for allegedly extorting N60,000 from a traveller at Owerri’s Sam Mbakwe airport.
The Imo State police spokesperson, Mike Abattam, stated in a statement on Wednesday, October 27 that the officers extorted money from the victim, Victor Aguwah, while he was travelling from the airport to his village of Mbaise.
While condemning the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, confirmed that the police officers had been identified, arrested, and detained at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
He stated that the erring officers, whose names have not been made public, would face disciplinary action in an orderly room trial.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was returning from a destination on Tuesday when he was approached by police officers who forced him to pay N60,000 through a POS after he could not afford the initial amount they demanded.
