Player Ratings as Chelsea spell Norwich’s name with 7 nil
In an afternoon of total thrashing on football lessons,we take a look at how the Chelsea players rate against the EPL season’s new boys.
Edouard Mendy 8/10
Nothing to do in the first half. Called into action early in the second after sloppy play from Chilwell, making a fine save from Rashica. That was it. Yet another clean sheet to add to his collection though he won’t get many easier ones than this.
Reece James 8/10
Had a quiet first half until he popped up in the Norwich box to delightfully finish Chelsea’s third goal of the game, but he was only quiet because he had little to do. A constant threat after the break and a good return in his first start since injury.
Trevoh Chalobah 8/10
Didn’t really have much to do at all in the opening 45 minutes as he coasted through the first half. Got on the ball more in the second half and tried to make some things happens as he wasn’t being tested.
Thiago Silva 8/10
Coped easily with Teemu Pukki and had probably his easiest game since…Malmo on Wednesday.
Antonio Rudiger 8/10
Played more in Norwich’s half than his own in the opening 45 minutes and had many forays forward. Three crosses and two shots on goal the sum of his first half. Not much of note after half time, played a bit within himself actually.
Ben Chilwell 9/10
Threw himself forward at every opportunity, but also a good clearing header to snuff out a Norwich attack with Aarons lurking behind him. Arrowed in a fine finish early in the second half to score for a fourth straight League game.
Snapped into the tackles early on to win the ball back and frustrate the Canaries on the rare occasions they had possession. Taken off early in the second half to get some rest and with Chelsea already 4-0 up.
Mateo Kovacic 8/10
Justified his recall with a wonderful through ball to set Hudson-Odoi away for Chelsea’s second of the game. Passing was much improved from the games before he was dropped. Two assists on the day and could have had more.
Callum Hudson-Odoi 9/10
Callum Hudson Odoi scores Chelsea’s second goal against Norwich
Earned the wrath of Tuchel in the fourth minute for not getting into the box quickly enough as Chelsea broke clear. Had his head coach cheering 15 minutes later when he steered home the Blues’ second of the game and gave Ozan Kabak a horrendous time. Picks up an assist as well for Aarons’ OG.
Mason Mount 9/10
Fabulous finish to give Chelsea the lead inside ten minutes, arrowing an effort into the far corner to end a 15-game goal drought. Clever pass put in James for Chelsea’s third and bagged his second from a retaken penalty and bagged the match ball late on.
Kai Havertz 7/10
A bit quiet in the first half as his teammates enjoyed themselves and scuffed a presentable chance straight at Krul. Despite Chelsea firing on all cylinders he was still a bit on the periphery of things. Not a bad game but didn’t stand out.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (for Jorginho, 64′) 7/10
Forced two decent saves from Krul and was dominant in midfield after his arrival. Unselfish to square for Mount to complete his hat trick.
Hakim Ziyech for (Hudson-Odoi, 69′) 6/10
Tried a bit too hard to impress.
Ross Barkley (for Havertz, 69′) 6/10
Should have scored.
