Peter Odemwingie Celebrates His 40th Birthday Today
Peter Odemwingie is celebrating his 40th birthday. He was born July 15, 1981.
Odemwingie is a retired Nigerian footballer who played striker and winger. grew up in Uzbekistan and Russia, and he began his career in the Nigerian Premier League with Bendel Insurance. He subsequently moved to European football with La Louvière of Belgium, where he spent three seasons winning the Belgian Cup before joining Lille of France.
Odemwingie scored 26 goals for Lille while also representing the club in the UEFA Champions League, prompting Lokomotiv Moscow to spend £10 million for his services in July 2007. In three and a half years with Lokomotiv, he scored 23 goals before joining West Bromwich Albion in August 2010. For the Baggies, he scored 30 Premier League goals, earning him three Premier League Player of the Month accolades. After an unsuccessful move to Queens Park Rangers, he fell out of favour with Steve Clarke and was moved to Cardiff City for £2.25 million in August 2013. He spent six months at Cardiff before joining Stoke City in January 2014 as part of a player-exchange deal with Kenwyne Jones.
Odemwingie made his Nigerian national team debut in a friendly against Kenya in May 2002 and has since played over 60 times for the country, including at two World Cups and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and winning silver at the 2008 Olympics.
Odemwingie was born in Nigeria to a Nigerian father and a Tatar mother from Russia. Osaze, his middle name, meaning “God picks (you).” After two years of courtship, Odemwingie married his fiancée, Sarah Fallon, on May 26, 2012, in a chapel in Northampton.
