Pantami: FG to deploy 5G network by January 2022
Minister of communication and digital economy, Isa Pantami said the fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks will be deployed in January 2022.
The Minister represented by Ubale Maska, the NCC’s Technical Services Commissioner on Thursday 23 September in the municipal hall in the state of Maiduguri in Borno stated that it was necessary to use more than 50,000 telecommunications sites around the country and about 16,000 interruptions recorded between January 2021 and July by Mobile network operators (MTN, Airtel, AIRTEL, 9mobile)
In the affected areas Pantami blamed the outages on fiber cuts, denial of access, and robberies.
The Minister has urged that the national assembly speed up the transition of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Bill for further submission to Muhammadu Buhari for consent in condemning situations in which telecoms systems were being destroyed in terrorist attacks which were not replaced as a result of the severe security and tensions in the northeastern states.
