Brazil’s Neymar Jr has stated that the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be his final appearance for the national team.
In an interview with DAZN, the Paris Saint-Germain player stated that he was doubtful of his mental capacity to manage the demands of the sport.
He said, “I think it’s my last World Cup. I see it as my last because I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football anymore.”
Despite his status as the face of Brazil’s national team, Neymar has been the target of scathing criticism from Brazilian fans.
Neymar and the Seleço lost the Copa America against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in July, drawing even more criticism.
The 29-year-old has 116 caps for Brazil, scoring 69 goals, and has committed to giving his all in what may be his final match in Qatar.
He said, “I’ll do everything to turn up well, do everything to win with my country, to realise my greatest dream since I was little. And I hope I can do it.”
