Mike Ozekhome Reveals Why DSS Released Actor Chiwetalu Agu
Human rights lawyer Mike Ozekhome has revealed why the Department of State Services, DSS, released Nollywood veteran Chiwetalu Agu.
According to Ozekhome (SAN), Agu was released after his phones were examined and nothing incriminating was discovered.
The Nigerian Army apprehended the 65-year-old actor last Thursday in Onitsha, Anambra State, for wearing Biafra regalia. Soldiers apprehended him while he was participating in a charity event on Upper Iweka Bridge.
However, Agu was released by the Nigerian Army on Friday, only to be re-arrested by DSS agents. The veteran actor was reportedly transferred to Abuja for questioning by the secret police.
Ozekhome, on the other hand, claimed Agu had committed no crime that warranted his arrest. He stated this in a signed statement titled ‘Chiwetalu Agu Released By DSS.
“Several interactions were held by the chambers with the DSS operatives, who were, however, very civil and very cooperative.
“Agu was released this (Tuesday) evening to Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, Actors Guild of Nigeria), by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a careful search on his phones showed nothing incriminating,”
