Can You Marry Someone You Are Not Attracted To?
Many people choose to marry someone who is not physically attractive because it adds a layer of emotional security to the relationship. They may believe that a less attractive spouse will be more loyal, trustworthy, and less likely to be tempted by other men or women.
Many other factors can take precedence over the need for us to be physically attracted to the partner we’ve chosen to settle down with. These, however, are the most common.
Next, consider the following factors that many of us use to justify marrying someone even if we are not physically attracted to them:
1. Finances – Many people marry to improve or secure their financial situation, completely disregarding physical attraction.
2. Fame – The bright lights, popularity, and notoriety of dating someone famous (or infamous) are enough of an enticement for many people to marry those they are not attracted to.
3. Class – Within our society, there are several social classes, the most powerful of which are powerful who only exist at the highest levels of high society.
Clearly, the question of whether or not to hook up with someone you don’t like has many facets and shades. While it appears to be a simple black and white answer, either “Yes” or “No,” there are many shades of grey to consider.
