Wahala! Man Who Paid N20k Dowry in 2011 Demands N200k Refund From Wife Before Divorce

Abdullahi Mustafa, a husband, requested N200,000 from his divorce-seeking wife, Asma’u Muhammad, on Wednesday.

After his wife petitioned a Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to break their 10-year marriage, the 40-year-old made the request.

Khul’i, a process in which a wife returns dowry to her husband, will be used to split the union.

According to NAN, Mustafa told the court that the N20,000 dowry he gave Asma’u in 2011 was not acceptable to him.

The man stressed that the amount will not be enough to marry another wife.

“Time has changed and the value of Naira has depreciated. Marriages are costly, as such, I can’t accept the old dowry”, he said.

Meanwhile, the judge, Murtala Nasir has adjourned the matter until August 9 for a ruling.
