The beneficiaries, according to Mr Ralph Enukorah, Head of Unit, Anambra State Cash Office, came from 11 of the state’s 21 LGAs.

The payments began with six LGAs in the state’s poorest areas, including Awka North, Anambra West, Dunukofia, Ihiala, Ayamelum, and Orumba South, according to Enukorah.

To accommodate more beneficiaries, he said the program has been expanded to five more LGAs, namely Awka South, Onitsha North, Ogbaru, Nnewi North, and Anambra East.

The roster of beneficiaries was created by a sister organization, the social operations coordinating unit, which travels to villages and wards to collect data on disadvantaged households, according to the unit leader.

“The Federal Government is paying the beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer, as a social intervention programme of the Buhari administration.

“Every month, the poor and vulnerable households are paid N5,000 and in Anambra, we have a total of 15,768 beneficiaries spread across 11 local government areas, he said.

Mr Sunday Nwant to, one of the recipients, said the money would go a long way toward alleviating his and his family’s financial burdens.

Despite the fact that the N10,000 would not be enough to start a cottage business, Nwant to said it was a tremendous relief for him and his family.

He expressed gratitude to the FG for the program and urged it to continue, stating that the gesture meant a great deal to the impoverished.

Mrs Regina Obikie also spoke, expressing her delight at receiving the funds, which she said will help her expand her modest business.

Mr Bernard Nwobodo, a representative of the Payment Service Provider (PSP), said the system was being automated to make it easier for beneficiaries to receive payments.

Nwobodo stated that the National Cash Transfer Office had initiated the digitization of the payment process, with beneficiaries receiving ATM cards.

He stated that the procedure has begun in some LGAs, including Ihiala, Awka North, and Orumba South, and that it will be expanded to others.

“When these cards are activated, the beneficiaries can access the money through the bank ATM and other financial services providers for easy withdrawal of their money upon verification, he said.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the effort is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Social Intervention Programme (SIP), which aims to assist the needy.
