Ferdinand tells how Sir Alex destroyed Nistelrooy in an epic dressing room rant

    Alex Ferguson and Nistelrooy

Since new ownership on the blue side, the rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City has risen by leaps and bounds.

However, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that the Manchester City rivalry has always been exciting.

This evaluation was expressed in an interview with City icon Vincent Kompany on the Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.

The legendary Sir Alex Ferguson took the rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City very seriously, according to Ferdinand in the interview.

According to Ferdinand, following a derby between the two sides in 2002, Fergie destroyed Nistelrooy in a dressing room outburst.

Man City defeated Manchester United 3-1 at home in November 2002.

Man City overcame Man United at Maine Road thanks to two goals from Shaun Goater.

He added that Fergie was dissatisfied with the game’s outcome.

Ruud strolled into the United dressing room with a Man City jersey that he had received after the game, which aggravated his rage.

When Ferguson replied to Van Nistelrooy sporting a City jersey, Ferdinand claimed that he knew the importance of the derby.

“That was the first derby I played and the moment I realized how big it was in the changing room after.

“We walked in and the manager shut the door. It was quiet and then all of a sudden he just erupted.

‘That’s how he was, he was just mad. That’s when I sat there and thought: “This is a big game, isn’t it?”

Van Nistelrooy made atonement for his behaviour in the first game by scoring to put Manchester United ahead in the second leg at Old Trafford.

Manchester City, though, equalized in the 86th minute through Goater, and the game ended in a tie.
