They are the joint-most successful side in the championship holding it three times, they won at Belgium 1972 beating the Soviet Union 3-0, Italy 1980 where they defeated Belgium 2-1 and at England 1996 where they won the Czech Republic 2-1.

The team finished out of the top eight only on two occasions, the tournaments of 2000 and 2004.

In all other editions, Germany had participated in the finals but once they reached at least semi-finals, doing so nine times, an unparalleled record in Europe.

Whilst, France have won the championship two times won two titles in 1984 and 2000. in 1984 they defeated Spain 2-0 to win it and in 2000 they won 2-1 against Italy.

France is just below Spain and Germany who have won three titles each. They had their worst result in the competition when they got eliminated in the first round in 1992 and 2008.

How would both teams’ lineup possibly?

France possible starting lineup: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Kimpembe, Hernandez; Kante, Pogba, Rabiot; Griezmann; Mbappe, Benzema

France coach Didier Deschamps wants his side to be much more effective and efficient in both boxes.

‘The objective is to be effective in both boxes as that’s where the game will be decided.”

Germany coach Joachim Löw believes his side has quality players and will keep full focus in the game.

“We have a lot of qualities in our team, a good balance, a good mix between attack and defence. In attack we have a lot of quality – Werner, Sané, Havertz, Müller and Gnabry, to name just a few, can decide a game on their own. Both sides have dangerous attackers, you have to be focused every second, and not take your eyes off any of them.”

What are the Captains saying about this match?

France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris charges his teammates to put out their utmost best against a great football nation like Germany.

“Our forwards will be closely watched and if we are to achieve a great result then above all it will be achieved by great team performance.

‘Those three are capable of making the difference at any time but we are looking for balance on the pitch and to control the match against a great footballing nation.”

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer thinks France has a sharp attacker and urges his team to know how to deal with them.

“France have top attackers who are very important to the side. We know about them, not just Mbappé. We respect them and I guess it’s the same the other way round – how they feel towards us, too.”
