Reno Omokri has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for planning new foreign loans.
Former assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Omokri, accused the president of Nigeria as an enemy of progress.
Omokri accused Buhari in a number of tweets of using foreign loans on alleged unnecessary things like building a naval base in the Kano State in the wilderness.
“A new $4 billion loan. What is Buhari even using all these loans for? Useless things like Naval Base in Kano’s desert and sewing Igbo trousers that never reach the ankle. What has this nation called Nigeria done to deserve this enemy of progress?
“Naira is now ₦550 to $1, and Buhari still wants to borrow an additional $4 billion after increasing foreign debt from $10 billion in 2015 to $34 billion today? Does he have no shame? What type of bambiala mentality is this? Is it until Naira gets to ₦1000 to $1?”
Buhari requested the Senate on Tuesday to grant external loans of $4 billion and €710 million.
The request for the President was made in a letter to President Ahmad Lawan of the Senate and read yesterday in the plenary.
Buhari said the loan proposed would be funded by World Bank, French Development Agency, EXIM Bank, and IFAD sovereign loans.
Buhari noted that if the loan was approved, the federal government would be able to finance critical infrastructural projects across the country in different sectors.
