Bayern ready to offer over €100m for Nigeria and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen of Nigeria and Napoli is a target for some of Europe’s best teams, with Bayern Munich apparently willing to pay over €100 million for his talents.

Osimhen, a native of Edo state, has attracted Real Madrid’s attention this season as he leads Napoli’s attack.

Due to a series of injuries and a bout with Covid-19, he only scored 10 goals in his first season with Napoli, after the Italian club paid a club-record €81.3 million to bring the Nigerian from Lille to Naples.

In his second season with Napoli, the 22-year-old has nine goals in only 11 games, the most recent coming in last Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League win over Legia Warsaw.

According to a report in the Spanish newspaper AS, Osimhen has been on the radar of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the German club willing to pay over €100 million to sign the Nigerian international at the end of the season, possibly as a replacement for the ageing Robert Lewandowski, who is also on Real Madrid’s radar.

According to AS, Osimhen isn’t Real Madrid’s top transfer target, but if the Spanish club fails to sign its top three targets, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Halland, and Robert Lewandowski, he might rise to the top of the list.

According to the publication, the 33-year-old Lewandowski, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2023, could request a transfer next summer as he seeks a fresh challenge.

Bayern will trade Lewandowski and sign Osimhen as a replacement because they are unlikely to see his contract expire.

Bayern Munich is willing to pay Napoli over €100 million to sign the Nigerian, who formerly played for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

On Sunday, scouts from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were present at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, where Napoli were denied a record-breaking start to a Serie A season as Roma held them to a goalless draw, stopping them from winning their 9th consecutive league game.

It was the first time this season that the Naples-based club has failed to score in the league.

AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho praised his players after the game for halting the in-form Osimhen.

“The game had a lot of transitions in it – they tried to play really directly through Osimhen and then bring others into play around him,” Mourinho told Roma’s official portal.

“[On Sunday] I liked the organisation, and the way we controlled, in a certain sense, because controlling him is far from easy – Osimhen’s attempts to get into space.”
