Bandits in Northwest Nigeria have released 90 abducted students and staff from the Federal Government College (FGC) in Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, after 118 days in captivity.
DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, verified the children’s and teachers’ release to reporters but declined to elaborate.
The release of the students was also confirmed by the father of one of the abducted students, who wished not to be identified.
“Yes. They were released yesterday but are still with the authorities. They are expected to undergo some medical check-up before they are released to their parents,” he said.
Asked whether there was Ransome paid before the bandits released the students, he said, “I am not going to speak on that. I hope the authorities are in the position to explain better”.
