5 reasons why Lewandowski deserves the Ballon d’Or ahead of Messi and Jorginho

#5 Lewandowski won the Bundesliga, Club World Cup and DFL Super CupRobert Lewandowski celebrates after securing the Bundesliga title for Bayern Munich

Despite the fact that the Ballon d’Or is given to the finest player in the world, there is a limit to how far individual brilliance can take you. After all, football is a team sport, and what is important is that the players work as a unit to help the team win trophies.

As a result, winning trophies is a requirement for the Ballon d’Or. In the 2020-21 season, he was Bayern’s best player as they won the Bundesliga. In addition, he won the Club World Cup, scoring two goals and assisting on two occasions.

Last season, he also helped Bayern win the DFL Supercup. He has a respectable prize tally, albeit it pales in comparison to the European treble they won in the 2019-20 season.

#4 More consistent over the course of the 2020-21 season than Messi and Jorginho

Lewandowski did not hit rough patches like Messi and Jorginho

Over the last decade, Lewandowski has been one of the most consistent players on the planet. However, in recent years, he has become Europe’s most prolific goalscorer. Over the course of the 2020-21 season, he has been far more consistent than his opponents.

Messi’s 2020-21 season got off to a rocky start. Messi did not get off to a fast start in the early stages of the 2020-21 season after being obliged to stay at Barcelona throughout the summer. During that time, Barca was severely harmed. In fact, it wasn’t until 2021 that Messi really found his stride, and their fortunes began to turn around.

Jorginho was part of a Chelsea team that was in grave straits when Frank Lampard was fired in January and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Until Tuchel came aboard, the Italian international was also being chastised for not providing anything on either side of the pitch. There was no difficult patch for Lewandowski. He has been a reliable player for Bayern Munich this season, scoring goals on a regular basis.

#3 Lewandowski is off to a flying start in the 2021-22 seasonFC Bayern München v Hertha BSC - Bundesliga

Continuing on from the previous point, Lewy appears to be able to maintain his form for extended periods of time. He’s taken up precisely where he left off in the previous season, and he’s off to a fast start in the new one.

Players’ performances up until the award will be taken into account. By maintaining his prolific goal-scoring record, he is performing a great service to the team and himself.

So far this season, the 33-year-old has scored seven goals in four appearances in the Bundesliga and DFL Supercup. In addition, he has scored three goals and contributed two assists for Poland in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers this month. If Lewy maintains his current form, it will be difficult to overlook him in the Ballon d’Or competition.

#2 Best goalscorer in Europe’s top 5 leagues

FC Bayern Muenchen v Borussia Moenchengladbach - Bundesliga

Over the last decade or two, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo put up huge individual stats. In a season, both players would typically have over 50 goals and assists in all competitions.

Over the last few campaigns, Lewandowski has done just that. In 40 games across all competitions for the 2020-21 season, he scored 48 goals and added nine assists. In just 40 games last season, he assisted on 57 goals.

He also averaged 1.2 goals per game as a goal scorer. Even Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe can’t match Lewandowski’s production.

    #1 He is a Record-breaker

Robert Lewandowski of FC Bayern Muenchen poses with the top goalscorer of the season award

Robert scored 41 goals in the 2020-21 season to win the European Golden Shoe. In doing so, the striker surpassed Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season.

What’s more impressive is that Lewandowski scored 41 goals and added seven assists in his 29 Bundesliga appearances last season. Last season, he had a goal involvement rate of more than 1.5 goals per game. We don’t know what else to call individual brilliance if that isn’t it.

He shattered a record that had stood for 49 years, and he did so emphatically. Last season, he stood out from the crowd in terms of individual performances, which is why he deserved to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
